A BIT ABOUT ME

Hello. I am a self-taught contemporary textile artist who lives and works on Dartmoor.
I was lucky enough to be born and grow up surrounded by the magic of Dartmoor, developing an unwavering connection with the natural world. After studying Psychology at Swansea University I embarked on a successful career in marketing and in 2005 returned to Dartmoor with my husband to raise our family. In 2012 I retrained as an accountant, all the while continuing to feed my passion for textiles, stitching when time and my young family allowed.
I first became absorbed in the world of textiles, learning to sew sat at the feet of my little Nan as she made and mended on her trusty Singer. Inspired by the individualism and creative outlet sewing offered me, I started making my own clothes and accessories from a young age.
My progression into textile art began in earnest in 2019 after re-discovering raw edge applique and free motion embroidery. Using the texture and colour of fabric and thread to draw, I hope to capture the character and beauty of the local people and landscapes with my own sprinkle of quirkiness.
My relationship with art is one of healing. Love Essjay
